What is Diabetes

With proper treatment and lifestyle changes, people with diabetes can live long and healthy lives. We can help you manage your diabetes in an effective manner.  Call us to make an appointment.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how your body regulates blood sugar (glucose). Normally, your body uses insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, to unlock cells and allow glucose to enter for energy. With diabetes, either the body doesn’t make enough insulin or cells resist its effects, leading to high blood sugar levels.

Types of Diabetes:

  • Type 1 Diabetes: The body attacks insulin-producing cells, requiring daily insulin injections.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: The body either doesn’t make enough insulin or becomes resistant to it. This is the most common type.
  • Gestational Diabetes: Develops during pregnancy but usually resolves after childbirth.

Treatments for Diabetes:

  • Blood Sugar Monitoring: Regularly checking blood sugar levels is crucial for managing diabetes.
  • Lifestyle Changes: Healthy eating, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight are essential.
  • Medication: Medications can help regulate blood sugar, including oral medications and insulin injections.

Living with Diabetes:

While there’s no cure for most types of diabetes, it’s a manageable condition.
